Homeward Bound K-9's
Happy Tails!
One day a 5 mos old puppy was left out on my busy country road & we were meant to find each other.  As she
grew up, I learned that a Border Collie has a lot of energy, is very socially adept and needs a job.  Even though I
have been a 'one animal person' my entire adult life, I started to entertain the idea of getting my Sadie a playmate,
but I was torn about it.

I happened upon a website where I saw some precious pictures of pups who were being cared for @ Homeward
Bound K9's.  I contacted a gal named Mary and I probably drove her nuts for a couple of months because I wanted
another dog and then I'd change my mind....back n forth I went.  But she was so understanding and helpful to
discuss my concerns and agreed that it was important for a good match to happen and for me to be certain about
my decision.  Eventually, I came across a picture of Ellie Mae and I had this feeling about her that I couldn't
shake.  I timidly asked Mary about Ellie Mae and she said that she would have Stacie contact me because that
was Ellie Mae's foster Mom.

Eventually Stacie contacted me and we discussed Ellie Mae and she had several questions for me before she
would agree to a visit.  I liked the idea that I was being interviewed and that Homeward Bound K9's was not just
looking to send their precious pups anywhere.  They have stringent guidelines that they follow and I liked the
contents of the 'adoption contract' that I had to read and sign.  They want to know that their pups will be properly
cared for and that there is a good match with their humans.   Furthermore, they want them back if you cannot fulfill
your contract!  How committed is that!?!!

Well, the day came, January 18, 2008, and Stacie brought Ellie Mae to our home and immediately Sadie wanted to
play with her new sister and today is September 28, 2008, and Sadie and Ellie Mae have been inseparable and
playing every day ever since then!  Ellie Mae's presence in both of our lives has brought so many happy and
loving moments.  I never could have imagined that it would be such a blessing to have her in our lives.  Stacie
has been available anytime I had a question and I have enjoyed staying in touch with her and bombarding her
with new pictures!  ha ha   Everywhere I go, whenever I meet someone who expresses an interest in having a
dog, especially when they see Ellie Mae, I tell them about Homeward Bound K9's.

Mattie
My name is Becky Garrett.  The photos attached are the joy of my life!  Her name is Mattie.  She is Basenji terrier
cross.  But trust me she is more Basenji (or part cat, lol) than anything else.  I adopted her from Homeward bound
K-9's about a year ago.  Stacie Kiggins and the rest of the staff were very helpful in bringing us together.  They
came to my home and did an evaluation of me and my home.  When Stacie called me to give me her decision she
had reservations about Mattie coming here because I lived so close to a highway.  I assured her Mattie would be
safe with me, and after much discussion she agreed to meet me and bring Mattie and give me a chance.  I must
admit that Mattie brought doubts to my mind at first because she was nervous and full of energy, and I thought
she was going to be more than I could handle.  But I gave her a chance, and it didn't take long and she settled
into her new home with me and soon became my permanent friend.  I found her by looking on Homeward Bound's
web site, and I would recommend to everyone to check it out and find a life long lovable friend like I have.  I
would not part with her for anything.  She is my friend, protector, and my comfort during times of stress.  Thanks
Homeward Bound K-9s!!!

I wanted to send you an update on Leo and Dodger.

Leo came to us after our Chow of 15 years passed. Leo is definitely different than any Chow we've ever had, in a
very good way. He is very mellow like our other Chow's were except when he wants to be loved. He jumps up
next to us and and sticks his head under our hands. He is a big cuddle bug. He has learned several tricks for
treats; twirling on his hind legs, sitting, and begging. He also wakes me up at 4 am every morning when the paper
comes so I can read the paper and take him on a walk. Our neighbors call him "Little Lion". He loves to be in the
back yard on nice days laying on the grass and peering out the iron fence.

We decided to adopt Dodger from you after our success with Leo. Our other Chow of 15 years passed and our
daughter wanted a Dalmatian. You had Dodger. He has been so much fun. He is very high energy. Loves to play
catch, Frisbee or balls. Due to his high energy needs I have taken up jogging again and jog approx. 2 miles every
morning with him. I also stop at an empty field to let him run off leash over the trees. He has is very obedient and
runs in circles so I can always see him. I lost 15 pounds and am in much better shape thanks to him. He loves to
ride in the car in the morning when I drop off my daughter at school. He sticks his head out the moon roof. All the
kids, parents and crossing guards look forward to seeing him. They get mad if I don't bring him. He also has a new
friend that wandered into our life 4 months ago. Another high energy pit bull puppy. They are inseparable and play in
the yard all day when it's nice. Dodger follows me and the house and is at my heels. He is a big, high energy goof
ball.

We are so thankful you allowed Dodger and Leo to be part of our family! You made the adoption experience easy by
checking our house and references to make sure the dogs were a good fit and providing us with healthy well
rounded dogs.

Thank you!

Stacy,

Andrew and I can still remember when we first saw "Beauty" on the internet. We fell instantly in love. Then we
were able to first meet her at the Rogers pet store, it was so hard not to go home with her that day! Bella has
been such a blessing to our lives and such a perfect fit to our family. She has such a personality and a way
about her that puts a smile on our face daily. She is our "little girl" and just as a human daughter would, she has
her daddy wrapped around her paw. She enjoys going to her Nana's and running on the farm with cows....she
stays in the yard and pounces at them on the other side of the fence- very brave:) She loves for us to put a piece
of ice on the floor so she can chase it. She is scared of oranges and grapes. She will curl her lips up so that
only her front teeth touch it, and then carefully set it on the ground and lay beside it. Then after a bit, she'll roll on
it and slap at it until it gets too messy and we throw it away. She has also recently got into a horrible habit of
hitting when things are not going her way. Andrew and I will sit on the couch with her and watch a movie. She
usually lays across us. But if we stop petting her, she will sit up and look at us, and when that doesn't work, she
slaps at us (like a cat). When she barks, she scares herself and sits straight up wherever she is and looks at us
like, "did you hear that?!" She is so happy and playful. Bella will also go to her Nana's preschool and play with
the kids. She is wonderful with children and other pets. She eaisly blends where ever we go. Bella enjoys being
our little girl and wearing her hairbows, she gets excited when I put them in, because she knows she's going
somewhere! We recently took her canoeing and unfortunately she hurt her soft feet on the rocks. We had to
medicate and dress her feet twice a day and she had to wear socks. I went to the store and bought pink lacy
socks to match... She loved them! Never tried to take them off. We couldn't believe it! Andrew was very proud
when I brought "his dog" with big pink hairbows and pink lacy socks to the Fire Department to see him at work
:) We just could not ask for a better companion. She fits Andrew and I perfectly. Thank you for blessing our family
with such a special dog.We can't imagine our lives without our little Bella.

Love,
Andrew and Lindsay

Hello Homeward Bound!  Long time no talk!

I have been with my mama and daddy for exactly 1 year and 3 months this coming Thursday.  It has
been a BARKtastic year and I cannot imagine my life without my new family.

My first couple of weeks were kind of 'ruff' - get it?  :)  I seem to have a little bit of what my parents call
'separation anxiety.'  They say that they think I was left somewhere before you guys found me, which may
have contributed to it.  So unfortunately when mama and daddy leave me at home alone, I have to go in
my crate.  The first month was hard because it was a new home and I was worried about being alone.
But mama and daddy worked with me to help me feel like my crate is my own home.  Another way that
they have helped me is by taking me to the Doggy Day Care at the Faithful Friends Animal Clinic.  Pretty
much every Wednesday I get to go and see Miss Pam and Dr. Morgan.  They LOVE me there - they think I
am extra sweet and special.  And I love it there - there are always a lot of doggies to play with and by the
time my mama or daddy picks me up - I am exhausted and sleep the whole car ride home.

For Christmas I got to do something really cool - fly on an airplane.  I didn't totally like where I was going -
Colorado - it was cold and there was all that white stuff that these people call snow.  It was not the most
pleasant circumstances for going potty.  But there were a lot of kids there who always wanted to play with
me and snuggle - so it was all good.

I love my neighborhood.  All of the people and especially the kids know me.  They all stop to say hi and
always pet me when mama and daddy are out walking me.  Even the little girl who is scared of every
other dog (even her own) will pet me...my mama and daddy say it's because I'm sweet.

My mama and daddy will take me for rides, walks at a park, out on the lake and sometimes for long road
trips.  I even spent Thanksgiving with a cat - now that was interesting!!  But my favorite thing to do - paws
down - is snuggle.  If I could just snuggle all the time, I would be the happiest puppy ever - of course, I
may already be that.

I have attached a few pictures - some of the less embarrassing ones.  One is of me all tuckered out just
before midnight on New Years Eve - don't laugh - I got sleepy and was in my comfy chair.  Another is of
me at Halloween - my mama and all the trick-or-treaters thought I looked cute; daddy and I thought I
looked silly.  Thankfully she doesn't dress me up often - although she did have this weird sombrero for me
for Cinco de Mayo.  And the other picture is me with my mama and daddy.  They got married in August,
so my new last name is only Bond now - I am trying to keep things simple.

Well, Homeward Bound - thank you so much for rescuing me from the Rogers Animal Shelter and for
introducing my parents to me on the Doggy Road Show (that's what we call it).  We all count our
blessings every night that we have each other to look after, love and snuggle.  You made everything so
easy for me to get adjusted to my new family and my mama and daddy appreciated you making
everything easy, for calling and checking in periodically - but most importantly for bringing me into their
life!!!!

Life is great.  Thanks for everything.
